April 8th, 42 Mile Steese to Cache Mtn

Another great day and ride for this spring of 2017. Six of us meet at Chatanika Lodge for breakfast at 9:00 AM and then drove to 42 Mile Steese to hit the White Mtn Trails. We discussed going to 85 Mile, but the clouds were looking low and it was windy, figured it’d be a more »

It was a Tres Amigos ride, Steve M., Nick S., and I were the only ones to show up, the rest for you all missed a good ride to Gold King, yup, we made it all the way. Arrived at Clear Sky Lodge at 9:00 and was wondering if the ride was going to be more »

Time to revisit this site and my life

So last August I retired, it was to say the least a hard decision but a good one now that I’ve had time adjust 🙂 With all my free time I was asked and agreed to re-join the Fairbanks Snow Travelers, Snowmachine club and have been enjoying it so far. Lots of work to do more »

2016 FST Sweetheart Run

The FST Sweetheart run was another great trip down the Tanana to Nenana and a lunch at the Monderosa. The river conditions were pretty good, but lacking in snow cover and lots of sheet ice and I was glad to have the Bearcat’s track studded up. However, those same wonderful studs also caused me some more »

What I figured was my last local ride was the Snow Travelers Two River run lead by Stoney. It turned out to be a good ride of about 48 miles on the trails north and south of Chena Hot Springs Road and through a couple of trails I hadn’t been on before. We started out more »

Fresh snow and Chatanika

We got a nice dump of fresh snow, a wet and heavy fresh snow, not what we usually get in Interior Alaska. I’m use to that nice dry powdery stuff, but this year has been such a snow drought for us any snow is appreciated, even wet heavy stuff. As the club didn’t have any more »

Iron Dog Week 2015

After the Sweetheart run the week before I decided to make a cabin run and haul in some more lumber for the generator shack. Jake offered to come along so we also hauled in the new 7KW generator, which means I can run the chop saw again when getting the tongue and grove up on more »

Feb 15, 2015 FST Sweetheart Run

A great day and an excellent 106 mile ride. When I arrived at Chena Pump Landing, our parking area, at 8:30 AM it was already 2 above zero. It looked like it was getting a little cloudy and of course that had me wondering about the flat light. Last year there was a couple of more »

Last ride of the season

And it was a doozy, the day started out fairly good, worked 4 hours, then drove down to my parking spot and unloaded. Plan was to make the first trip in with necessities and then make a couple more to haul the 1/3 cord of firewood I brought along. Well as they say, the “Best more »
